Apple MacBook 12 review – Updated, improved and still expensive

The 12-inch version of the MacBook used to be in demand, but after moving away from the usual design, sales have fallen. To regain popularity, the Cupertino-based company has equipped the new Apple MacBook 12 with a 7th generation Intel Core m3 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD.

Apple MacBook 12 review - Updated, improved and improved still expensive laptop

Apple MacBook 12 2017 design

The new MacBook looks flawless, from the laser-cut speaker grille to the glossy Apple logo on the lid. If the laptop is closed and placed on a flat surface, it will appear incredibly thin thanks to its slanted edges.

The keyboard of the Apple MacBook 12 is stretched from edge to edge, the speaker takes up the entire top. In an elegant design, all available space is used with maximum efficiency. From previous laptops in the series, the frame around the screen and the proportions of the case have been preserved. Otherwise, the design here is modern, and minimalism does not spoil the impression of luxury.

It’s hard to find a laptop that’s as sleek, thin, and solid as this one. Huawei Matebook X is the most obvious competitor to the MacBook, which clearly mimics the appearance of Apple’s laptop, but is inferior in structural strength. The Dell XPS 13 is a completely different laptop that uses less rigid materials to emphasize simplicity and affordability.

Port or connector

This 12-inch MacBook has just one USB-C port on the left and one headphone jack. In comparison, the 13-inch version has a USB-C port on both sides, which allows you to charge your laptop and stay online using a mouse.

The lack of connectors is constantly felt – without a docking station, you will not be able to connect an external mouse and keyboard to the Apple MacBook 12, as well as use a USB flash drive while charging, choose the side to connect the power cable, etc. You will have to buy and constantly carry with a bulky USB-C hub that will break the ultra-lightweight design of this laptop.

One port Apple MacBook 12

Of all Windows laptops, only the Asus Zenbook UX 3 390UA has so few ports and connectors. The Matebook X has two USB-C ports, the Dell XPS 13 has plenty of connectivity options, and the Microsoft Surface Laptop has USB 3.0 ports combined with DisplayPort. In comparison, the 2011 MacBook Air had as many as 5 USB ports, a Thunderbolt 2 connector, an SD card reader, and a MagSafe charging port.

Great keyboard and touchpad
